In the modern era of college hoops, there is no kicking back and enjoying the offseason for Alabama Basketball. Coach Nate Oats and company are fully occupied with the challenge of assembling a competitive roster in the age of the NCAA transfer portal.
Bama is awaiting the final decisions of players like center Charles Bediako and guards Mark Sears and Jahvon Quinerly, all of whom have entered the NBA Draft. Regardless of whether or not these players rejoin the Crimson Tide, there are holes to fill on the roster.
Coach Oats has already added Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton, and looks to add at least a couple more. Wofford transfer BJ Mack remains one of the Tide’s biggest targets.
One of the more recent portal prospects to express interest in the Crimson Tide is Hofstra transfer guard Aaron Estrada. At 6’4”, Estrada is a very good all-around player that averaged over 20 points per game for the Pride last season. Alabama made Estrada’s top four finalists, along with Kansas State, Florida State, and Cincinnati.
Alabama Basketball has also reached out to Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. in the past few days. Wrightsell Jr. is a scoring guard that is getting several high-major looks.
Although it still does not have a finalized roster, the 2023-24 non-conference schedule for Alabama Basketball is coming together. After already establishing a neutral site series with Arizona beginning next year, the Tide has now agreed to a two-game series with the Creighton Bluejays over the next two seasons.
The 2023-24 matchup against the Bluejays of the Big East should be a high-profile game between two of the nation’s best programs. The series is a true home-and-home, which is increasingly becoming a rarity in non-conference play.
Alabama Basketball will travel to Omaha next winter before Creighton comes down to Tuscaloosa the following season.
Alabama Basketball: Brittany Davis heads to Vegas
Alabama standout Brittany Davis was drafted 36th overall in the third round of the 2023 WNBA Draft, and will join the Las Vegas Aces franchise.
Davis was one of the SEC’s top performers over the past two seasons, leading the Crimson Tide with over 17 points and seven rebounds per game in both years. She showed herself to be a three-level scorer and a fierce competitor from her guard position in her time in Tuscaloosa.
Davis will represent the University of Alabama well in Las Vegas.
