10 greatest Alabama football undrafted free agents of all time
Greatest Alabama football undrafted player No. 5: Cam Sims
Wide Receiver
Washington Redskins: 2018-?
You might notice that most of the players on this list so far have been either on the defensive side of the ball or the line. Cam Sims stands out at this point precisely because there simply haven’t been that many wide receivers that have come from the Crimson Tide to the NFL unless they were drafted. Part of that has to do with the fact that offense hasn’t always been a key to Nick Saban’s approach. Indeed, having a deadly passing attack is a relatively new thing, all things considered.
Cam Sims makes this list for a couple of different reasons. The first is that he managed to go from being an undrafted free agent who barely played to someone getting decent time on the field. He played in just one game in his rookie season and just seven (starting one) in his sophomore campaign.
However, Sims really seemed to convince the Washington Redskins what he could do once his third season rolled around. In 2020 he hauled down a career-high 32 passes for 477 yards and a touchdown. While his numbers haven’t really come close to that since, he did play in all 17 games last year and started three.
The former Alabama football star, whose best season in Tuscaloosa was a 14-catch, 207-yard campaign, has shown that he knows how to make the most of his talents at an NFL level.
