The secondary for Alabama Football is replacing several starters heading into 2023, including a trio of standout safeties. The longest tenured member of this group was former Bama safety Jordan Battle, who started 45 games for the Crimson Tide over the course of four seasons.

The seasoned veteran was once a young gun, committing to Alabama Football as a 4-star recruit in the class of 2019. Hailing from the state of Florida, Battle was ranked as the second-best safety in his draft class.

He earned a spot in the rotation as a true freshman, even starting four games and making an immediate impact. By the time his career in Tuscaloosa wrapped up, Jordan Battle had amassed 251 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 16 pass breakups.

He showed he could generate turnovers, and even proved to be a weapon once he got the ball in his hands, returning his six career interceptions for 156 yards and three scores.

Battle’s best season was easily his junior year in 2021, which saw him record career-highs of 84 tackles, six pass breakups, and three picks, which he returned for two touchdowns.

He took a measurable step back as a senior in 2022, but was still a steadying presence on the defense. Battle had 71 tackles for the season, and intercepted a pass in Bama’s Sugar Bowl win over Kansas State, which proved to be his last collegiate game.

While he wasn’t always the playmaker fans had grown accustomed to seeing in 2022, this could be partially chalked up to other deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball.

To this point, Jordan Battle has received mostly mid-round grades with the potential to go as high as the second round. I tend to operate under the belief that the Battle we saw in 2021 is most indicative of his talent and trajectory. His instincts and well-rounded skill set will bode well for whatever NFL team decides to pick him up.

Good luck to Alabama Football NFL Draft entrant Jordan Battle!
