Alabama Football has a very clear top four prospects entering the 2023 NFL Draft, one of whom is running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Gibbs was only in Tuscaloosa for a year, but he made his mark on NFL scouts and endeared himself to Alabama Football fans during that time.

He began his career at Georgia Tech, and was arguably the Yellow Jackets’ best player during his two seasons in Atlanta. Gibbs proved to be electric in the open field, making an impact as a ball carrier, as a receiver, and as a kick returner.

Following his sophomore year, the all-purpose back entered the NCAA transfer portal and joined the Crimson Tide.

Gibbs’ lone season in Alabama saw him earn All-American honors for his versatility and explosiveness. He finished the season with a team-leading 926 rushing yards, adding a team-high 44 receptions for 444 yards. His 1,370 yards of total offense led the team, and his 10 total touchdowns tied for the team lead.

Jahmyr Gibbs will be best remembered amongst Alabama Football fans for a three-game tear he went on when quarterback Bryce Young was out and nursing a shoulder injury. Against Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Tennessee, the Bama offense was forced to lean heavily on Gibbs, who is not normally a high-volume back.

In these three games, he had 63 carries for 463 yards and five touchdowns, which was good for half of his season rushing production. In a different offense that didn’t feature a Heisman-caliber quarterback, Gibbs probably could’ve put up absurd numbers over the course of a season.

As it was, he was the most reliable skill player on the Crimson Tide offense, and one of the most dangerous weapons in the SEC.

Jahmyr Gibbs is considered a top-two running back in the 2023 NFL Draft, and has received borderline first round draft grades. Wherever he lands, he will make his quarterback’s life much easier with his ability to find open space as a receiver.

Gibbs will continue to stress defenses with his ability to make plays after the catch and on the ground. Additionally, he brings immense value as an experienced kick returner.
