Top 10 Alabama Football players in 2023 NFL Draft: no. 1
The 2023 NFL Draft is finally upon us, and will officially commence tomorrow evening. 16 years into his tenure, Alabama Football Coach Nick Saban could see the one accomplishment that has evaded him during his dominant run with the Crimson Tide.
Saban has sent an incredible 41 first-rounders from Tuscaloosa to the NFL, but none have ever gone number one overall in the draft. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is expected to be Saban’s first to be chosen first.
Young has spent the last half decade as the subject of a lot of hype, and he has constantly lived up to the fanfare. He was ranked as the second-best player in the 2020 class coming out of high school, receiving a nearly perfect prospect grade from 247Sports. Young was also considered the best quarterback in the nation and the top player in the state of California.
He spent his freshman season learning the ropes, sitting behind Mac Jones and mostly watching as the veteran-laden 2020 Alabama Football team scorched everything in its path en route to a national title.
By the time his true sophomore year rolled around, the reins were handed to Bryce Young, and he did not disappoint. The undersized and inventive signal caller took college football by storm, throwing for 4,872 yards and accounting for 50 touchdowns to become the first Alabama Football quarterback to take home the Heisman Trophy.
Young returned for his third and final year, one that would be disappointing from a team perspective. The reigning Heisman winner was too often asked to carry the team, and the burden looked awfully heavy at times.
Unfortunately, Young also suffered a shoulder injury that caused him to miss nearly two full games. Alabama Football fans would argue that it continued to hamper him for the rest of the regular season.
Despite being hobbled, Young finished the year with 3,328 passing yards and 36 total touchdowns in just 11 full games. The cherry on top of his illustrious career was an absolute masterclass in the Sugar Bowl against Kansas State that saw him throw for 321 yards and five touchdowns on just 21 attempts.
While his career didn’t end the way many would’ve liked, including Bryce himself, he has firmly established his talent and value as a quarterback and as a leader. Some even consider him the best QB in school history. The only “concerns” about Young as a pro prospect are questions about his size, but even those arguments are flimsy at best.
Bryce Young is widely expected to go no. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers, who would be fortunate to have such an outstanding player leading their offense.
Good luck to former Alabama Football quarterback Bryce Young as he tries to make history once again!
