The additional, spring Transfer Portal window closed at midnight Sunday night. If any additional Alabama football players decided to enter, it is yet to be known.
Let’s review the Transfer Portal options, based on current rules. First, it is not unusual for there to be a lag of 24-48 hours on entries. On Saturday or Sunday, Crimson Tide football players could have filed to transfer, but unless they make their decision public, the processing of the filing could take until Monday or even Tuesday. The deadline only applies to Portal entries. Players in the Portal still have months to find a new team.
The distinction made above applies to undergraduate players seeking immediate eligibility. Players who have graduated may transfer at any time. As most Alabama football fans know, the deadline to transfer from one SEC program to another SEC program, and be immediately eligible, passed months ago.
Alabama Football still considering transfer additions
UAB safety, Jaylen Key visited the Crimson Tide over the weekend. With just one season of eligibility left, Key is likely looking for a sure starter role. He will not find that in Tuscaloosa.
The Portal had some recent interesting additions, including starting quarterbacks and wide receivers. Nick Saban might consider another wideout, along with another offensive lineman and a tight end. Or Saban might be content to stand pat.

Even before former Notre Dame quarterback, Tyler Buchner was added, it was believed the Alabama Football roster count was 86 or 87, depending on whether James Burnip is on scholarship. With Buchner’s addition, the Crimson Tide could be two or three over now.
There has been very little chatter about any exits by one or more Crimson Tide quarterbacks. Some Alabama football insiders have claimed individuals close to Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson have said both are business as usual in Tuscaloosa. Nothing has been heard about how Dylan Lonergan and Eli Holstein are responding to the addition of a fifth Crimson Tide quarterback.
It is just a guess, but not an unreasonable one to assume more roster attrition is coming soon. If so, news should come out on Monday or Tuesday – unless the player has graduated or will graduate before fall.
The surprise of Nick Saban adding Tyler Buchner has faded. After further review, the young man might be just what the Alabama Football offense needs in the 2023 season.
