Wide Receivers

To some extent, the lack of honors for Crimson Tide receivers of the era is misleading. Only David Palmer (listed separately below) received much recognition. In a more pass-oriented offense, the four guys below (and other Tide receivers) would have produced bigger numbers.

  • Curtis Brown (1991-1995) – In four seasons Brown caught 106 passes for 1,568 yards.
  • Toderick Malone (1993-1995) – In three seasons, Malone caught 73 passes for 1,441 yards.
  • Kevin Lee – In four seasons, Kevin Lee caught 60 passes for 1,093 yards.
  • Michael Vaughn (1995-1996) – In the 1996 season, Vaughn caught 39 passes for 702 yards. Also in the 1998 season, he made 34 receptions for 403 yards.

All-Purpose Player

David Palmer (1991-1993) – A good argument can be made that David Palmer was the MVP of the Alabama Football, Gene Stallings era. The small, but extremely gifted athlete was primarily a wide receiver and returner. When needed, he also played quarterback. He was outstanding at all three positions. Palmer was the Tide’s leading receiver on the 1992 Championship team.

Palmer’s career stats were 102 receptions for 1,611 yards and 11 touchdowns; 86 rushes for 596 yards; 866 yards in punt returns and 841 yards in kick returns. He also completed 16 passes for 275 yards.
