Alabama Football No. 1 Career Rusher Najee Harris (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

  • Career Rushing – 3,843 yards on 638 carries
  • Career Yards-Per-Carry average of 6.02 yards
  • 2020 All-American and Doak Walker Award winner

Najee Harris could have been a track star as a high hurdler and he used his athleticism and leaping skills to sometimes go over the top of opposing tacklers. Alabama football coaches were not fond of the move, knowing that though it was effective, it carried with it the risk of serious injury.

Najee could also run over tacklers and run around them. Though not one of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s fastest running backs, he had sufficient speed for long scrimmage runs.

Najee has played two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers gaining over 1,000 yards each season.

Certainly, it can be argued the 10 Crimson Tide running backs are Alabama football’s best rushers of all time. It can also be argued that several more were in some ways, every bit as good.

  • Wilbur Jackson (1971, 1972, 1973) – 7.2 yards-per-carry
  • Eddie Lacy (2010, 2011, 2012) – 6.8 yards-per-carry
  • Tony Nathan (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978) – 6.4 yards-per-carry
  • Dixie Howell (1933, 1934) – 6.3 yards-per-carry
  • Lowell Tew (1944, 1945, 1946, 1947) – 6 yards-per-carry

Who will be the next great Alabama football running back? Many Crimson Tide fans believe it will be 2023 freshman, Justice Haynes.
