Alabama Football Recruiting: Busy weekend for the Crimson Tide
Alabama Football had a big recruiting weekend, and a big Sunday in particular. The Crimson Tide landed three commitments throughout the day, including two in the class of 2024. These new additions to Bama’s 2024 recruiting class bring the class up to no. 14 nationally with 12 total pledges.
The gem of the day was Zabien Brown, who is a 4-star cornerback out of Mater Dei in California. Brown is a top-100 player nationally, and is considered the no. 7 corner in the class. Bama already had a commitment from Jaylen Mbakwe, a 5-star and the nation’s top-ranked athlete who will play corner for the Tide, as well as 4-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley.
Brown now joins the group, and figures to compete in what should be a very talented Alabama secondary over the next few seasons. This 2024 haul comes just a year after Bama landed Caleb Downs, Dezz Ricks, Jahlil Hurley, Tony Mitchell, and Brayson Hubbard in its 2023 class. Former highly-touted prospect Earl Little II (class of 2022) is also expected to be on campus when the 2024 group arrives.
Bama also grabbed Justin Okoronkwo out of the 2024 class, an athletic 3-star linebacker out of Germany. Okoronkwo is not very highly rated by traditional metrics, but he is the type of fast and rangy linebacker that has become necessary in modern college football. He possesses a slender frame at 6’3” and just 200 pounds, and will likely try to gain some weight while working to maintain his athleticism.
Finally, Alabama Football managed to land a commitment from a 2026 prospect on Sunday. Offensive lineman Zykie Helton, a product of Carrolton, Georgia, became Bama’s first commitment in the cycle.
Alabama’s 2025 class still sits at no. 2 in the country with four commitments, headlined by 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams.
The 2024 class is roughly halfway done, and should continue to gain momentum throughout July and into the fall.
