No. 3 Alabama Quarterback-Receiver Duo

  • Tua Tagovailoa and Jerry Jeudy – 2018 Season

Sometimes, the memories of Tua Tagovailoa’s Alabama football career become clouded with ‘what might have been’ without his injuries. With all of Tua’s extraordinary skills, he never led Alabama to a national championship as a starting quarterback.

He did, of course, throw the most momentous touchdown pass in Alabama Crimson Tide history. That pass won a national championship.

Tua had five injuries in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He missed no games as a result of three of the injuries. He missed four games and much of a fifth in the 2019 season. He also played on one leg against LSU in 2019 and could barely walk off the field after the Tide loss.

Often, when he was healthy, Tua was sensational. He passed for 3,966 yards and 43 touchdowns in the 2018 season. Sophomore wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy caught 68 passes that season, for 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Had Tua been healthy throughout 2019, LSU might not have won a national championship. And this section might have been about Tua and DeVonta Smith. Tua passed for 2,840 yards in 2019. Smitty caught 68 passes for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns.
