Alabama Football was able to regain some momentum on the 2024 recruiting trail with the Saturday afternoon commitment of 4-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson.
Jefferson hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee and chose the Crimson Tide over SEC foes Georgia and Tennessee.
Alabama had an excellent recruiting stretch in June and into early July, but things had been quiet for the past couple weeks. The Tide missed on 5-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick, who flipped from Georgia to Auburn. Just days later, 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson flipped from Alabama to Auburn. This move took some wind out of Bama’s recruiting sails and sent factions of the fan base into panic.
While the immediate reaction of the Alabama Football fan base was extreme, Perry Thompson was and is a significant loss. Thompson was the highest ranked commit in Bama’s 2024 class at the time of his flip, which caused the Tide to fall back outside of the top-10 in the 247Sports national recruiting rankings.
The addition of Amari Jefferson softens the blow, and should help to right the ship. Jefferson is a solidly-built receiver at over 200 pounds, and has the versatility to play outside or in the slot. He is a complete receiver whose frame and physicality are reminiscent of former Bama standout John Metchie III or current Tide receiver Kendrick Law.
Jefferson joins speedy wide receiver Rico Scott and rangy 4-star tight end Caleb Odom to give Alabama Football a wide variety of pass catchers in this recruiting class.
Despite some recent setbacks, Alabama still has a lot of potential to climb in the 2024 recruiting rankings. Expect Coach Nick Saban and company to finish strong and land a top-5 class once again.
