How things will start for Alabama Football is close to being clear. None of the Tide’s other four quarterbacks appear to be close to beating out Jalen Milroe. There is a small chance that will change after Saturday’s scrimmage. But as I have been saying for a few days, look for Milroe to be the starter against MTSU.

There is recent, growing chatter among Alabama football fans that Dylan Lonergan has the best set of skills among Nick Saban’s five quarterbacks. A few Alabama football insiders have suggested that by October, Lonergan could elevate himself to QB2. No doubt the freshman has potential, but so far his progress may have never been against Alabama’s first-unit defense.

In what should surprise no one, the Auburn quarterback situation is the most iffy of the entire SEC. Hugh Freeze brought in Michigan State transfer, Payton Thorne. The latest buzz in Auburn is the QB competition is down to Thorne and Robby Ashford. Just a few days ago the buzz was Holden Grenier was the leader to win the starting job. Andrew Stefaniak, writing for Auburn Daily said.

"It really is starting to become a head-scratcher as to who will run out with the starters on September 2nd against UMass.  Auburn fans should trust whoever Coach Freeze sends out there, but goodness, it is hard to tell who might be the guy."

The good news for the Aubies is UMass is probably the worst FBS team. Later in the season, when the foes become real, Auburn may not have a quarterback answer.

When will Nick Saban name a starter? My best guess is not on the Monday of game week one.
