Setting Expectations for the 2023 Alabama Football Offensive Line
The Crimson Tide should have an O-Line unit that contends for the Joe Moore Award this season.
The only potential limitation of this group could be depth, as Alabama doesn’t have much experience at all behind its core group.
However, Bama has about eight guys that it trusts right now, and those eight have enough versatility to handle most of the offensive line responsibilities. For example, grad student Darrian Dalcourt is a seasoned vet with 16 career starts. If Dalcourt doesn’t carve out a starting role on the 2023 line, he will be a fundamental piece as a rotational or reserve player at all three interior offensive line spots.
Senior Seth McLaughlin will lead the unit from his center position, where he has been very effective over the past two seasons. Sophomore Tyler Booker and redshirt sophomore TJ Ferguson can be a road-grading duo at guard. After starting his career on the right side of the line, Booker may flip to left guard to give the Tide more experience on that side.
At tackle, projected first round draft pick JC Latham and true freshman Kadyn Proctor are a mountainous tandem, combining to tip the scales at well over 700 pounds. Redshirt freshman Elijah Pritchett is also an option at tackle, giving Alabama a solid three-man rotation.
Beyond the top eight, Alabama Football is relying on true freshmen Wilkin Formby, Olaus Alinen, Miles McVay, and Roq Montgomery to develop as the season progresses and eventually be ready to contribute if necessary.
