Alabama Football: ‘It was the midterm, not the final’
By Ronald Evans
In celebration of an Alabama football loss to Texas, many people are saying much and only a few know enough to deserve notice. I’m not in the celebrating group and I don’t want to be in the ‘don’t know enough’ group.
What I can say is Saturday night was one of the most disappointing losses of the Crimson Tide, Nick Saban Era. There were good reasons to believe Alabama would be very good this season. The Crimson Tide still might achieve championship contention, but on its home field, where few others have prevailed, Texas was the better team. The Longhorns were the better team by more than a 10-point margin would normally indicate.
Alabama football fans will accomplish nothing by overreacting. The season is far from over. There is breathing room next week on the road against USF.
My suggestion is Alabama fans only need to listen to Nick Saban about the Texas game and what lies ahead,
Listen to what a somber Nick Saban has to say after the game.
Go back to work is the message. Though it was a bad loss, it was not an SEC loss. All goals remain intact, though it would be delusional to ignore that those goals are in doubt.
More Nick Saban Alabama Football Comments
- “It all starts with me. I obviously let our team down in terms of how we were able to execute and play. We gave up 10 points on turnovers and way too many big plays on defense.”
- “We didn’t affect (Quinn Ewers) at all.”
- Taking about Alabama’s pass protection, Saban said, “a lot of those sacks were four-man rushes, one I think was a three-man rush.”
- He also said Milroe held the ball too long at times and receivers did not do a good job getting open.
- “We gave up way too many explosive plays on defense”
- “I believe in these players. These players have worked hard. It was a great atmosphere in the stadium tonight. I appreciate the fans. They did their part. We didn’t do our part.”
Asked about whether he considered replacing Milroe during the game, Saban admitted thinking about it but not discussing it with other coaches. Shortly afterward, Milroe led the Tide on a scoring drive.

Steve Sarkisian called a great game. He was also gracious after the game, saying the University of Alabama and Nick Saban “changed my life.”
