Alabama missed an extra point on its final touchdown of the game which left the door open for the game-winning field goal that Notre Dame made as time expired. The Crimson Tide finished the season 11-1.

By defeating Arkansas on New Year’s Day 1980, Bear Bryant secured his sixth and final national championship.
