The Texas Longhorns will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders only needing a win to clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game. A Texas loss however could cause chaos in the Big 12 as well as in the Playoff Polls. The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been a sneaky team all season despite their 6-5 record. The Red Raiders gave the Oregon Ducks an eight-point game and beat Kansas, and UCF, all impressive performances.

The Texas Longhorns have limped to the finish line if we’re being honest about this team. Since losing to Oklahoma the Longhorns beat Houston by seven, BYU by 29, Kansas State by 3, TCU by 3, and Iowa State by 10. The Longhorns also suffered a devastating loss against TCU losing starting running back Jonathan Brooks to a torn ACL. Brooks had been a workhorse for the Long Horns with 187 carries for 1,139 yards and ten touchdowns.

The Red Raiders are on their third quarterback of the season in Behren Morton who’s played well as of late. Over his last five games, Morton has passed for 1,019 yards and 7 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. The Red Raider defense has been impressive the last three games as well allowing 23, 13, and 28 points over their last three games good enough to win all three contests.

The key for Texas Tech will be starting fast, other teams have had success against Texas later in the games easing their way back into the contest. If they could jump out to an early lead, they may be able to lean on a Texas team that’s without its bell cow running back and has a quarterback that’s not 100% right now.

A Texas Tech win would be massive for the Alabama Football team and would give the Crimson Tide a much clearer path to the playoff. Texas remains Alabama’s biggest lingering issue as the head-to-head loss will provide a messy part of a difficult playoff argument. Eliminating Texas from the conversation makes entering the playoff picture easier as there will be no head-to-head argument and Alabama would all things considered have the best win in the country knocking off Georgia.
