Alabama Football: Iron Bowl Gameday Info and Prediction
By Ronald Evans
Every Alabama football fan knows what today is. In contrast, Auburn fans are not sure they are glad there is an Iron Bowl this season. According to FanDuel, the Alabama Crimson Tide is a 13.5-point favorite over the Auburn Tigers.
CBS has the game with an expected kickoff at 2:37 PM CST. For streaming the game can be seen through the CBS Sports app and also via FuboTV. The CBS broadcast crew will be Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and Jenny Dell. Eli Gold, Tyler Watts and Roger Hoover will have the radio broadcast on the Crimson Tide Sports Network, available on SiriusXM: 81.
In the 88th game between the two old rivals, Alabama Football will be seeking a fourth straight win over Auburn. Alabama leads the series 49-37-1. It will be the 17th Iron Bowl in Auburn, with the Tigers having won 10 of their home games.
What about Auburn?
In Hugh Freeze’s first season as the Tigers head coach, Auburn is 6-5. An Auburn loss would likely push the Tigers into a short Hwy. 280 trek to another Birmingham Bowl.
Auburn is coming off one of its most shocking losses in program history. Last Saturday in Auburn, the Tigers were three-plus touchdown favorites and lost to New Mexico State, 31-10. Freeze described the game and Auburn’s response afterward as a bad dream.
More than a few Auburn fans are blaming Freeze, but Auburn’s depleted roster comes from problems as far back as Gus Malzahn’s tenure in Auburn.
Can the Tigers make a miraculous turnaround in one week? It is easy to predict that Auburn will perform better than last week. How much better is impossible to define.
What Alabama Football needs from the Iron Bowl
A win and no major injuries may be all the Crimson Tide needs. The Tide needs to maintain its growing late-season momentum. Some Alabama football fans are convinced style points are needed to influence the next Playoff rankings.
Based on the latest reports the Crimson Tide will be healthy, minus Ja’Corey Brooks. Earlier in the week there was some thinking Jalen Key and Deontae Lawson would be given another week to make a more complete recovery before the SEC Championship Game.
Alabama’s talent level is so much greater than Auburn’s, the Tide should cover the spread and possibly win by much more. Nick Saban is not one to run up scores, but an Auburn game might be an exception.
The Tide got no help Friday night from the Texas Tech Red Raiders or the Oregon State Beavers. A three-touchdown win might serve the Tide better on Saturday.
Alabama Football vs. Auburn Game Prediction
In a voodoo-less Jordan-Hare Stadium, the best team (as usually happens in the series) will win.
