The Alabama Football team has the news of its first player departing via the transfer portal with the news of Tyler Buchner leaving the Tide. Buchner will be leaving the Alabama Football team for the Lacrosse Transfer portal. Many expected Buchner would leave as Jalen Milroe has secured the quarterback position for this season and the next season with quarterbacks like Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonergan, and incoming recruit Julian Sayin likely holding up the future of the room.
The decision to bring in Buchner made plenty of sense, the Alabama Football team was unsure of their quarterback for this season. Also in Buchner’s favor was the fact that Tommy Rees his former offensive coordinator left Notre Dame to take the Offensive Coordinator job for the Alabama Football team. The move just didn’t work out for the Alabama Football team or for Buchner. Tyler Buchner started against USF going 5-14 passing for 73 yards which ultimately sealed his fate as the Alabama Quarterback.
There will be nothing but well wishes from the Alabama Football team towards Tyler Buchner, he brought another option at quarterback and was mature about his role within the team whereas other players could’ve been vocal about being demoted on the depth chart.
Alabama Football: Portal adds a distraction for CFP Teams
The transfer portal is great for the players in terms of giving them more freedom than ever before. However, this has become a nightmare for coaches of teams still playing for a national championship. Teams competing now have the distraction of losing players, recruiting more players, and trying to keep their own players all while preparing for some of the biggest games of their season. The transfer portal brings excitement to the sport but, it should also be pushed until after the National Championship Game so teams and players focus on Bowl Games and their commitments to their teams.
