Kalen DeBoer and Alabama have gotten plenty of good news on the recruiting trail so far this week. There should be even more on the horizon as the summer visit season continues and plenty of priority Crimson Tide targets get ready to make their collegiate decisions.

Late Tuesday night, an Alabama commitment made a major announcement regarding his recruitment.

4-star DL Kamhariyan Johnson from Muscle Shoals announced on social media last night that his recruitment was completely shut down, reaffirming his commitment to the home-state Crimson Tide. Johnson had official visits scheduled over the next week and a half with Ole Miss and Miami. Those will no longer happen.

Johnson originally committed to Alabama back in April after an unofficial visit during A-Day weekend. He was back in Tuscaloosa this past weekend of his official visit, and clearly saw everything he needed to see to make this decision.

Johnson is one of six players committed to the Crimson Tide for the 2026 class, and one of two already locked in from the state of Alabama. DeBoer and the staff have made a bigger push for in-state prospects in this cycle, and should be gearing up for an even bigger push in the coming weeks.

Kamhariyan Johnson is one of the most underrated 2026 prospects

Turn on the tape, and you'll be surprised at how Johnson is rated so low. He is a consensus 4-star recruit but is ranked as the No. 356 overall prospect in the 247 composite. If there are 355 better players in this class, then it's the best recruiting class in college football history.

He's a quick-twitch athlete who still has plenty of room to grow. Johnson is listed as an edge, but at 6-foot-3 and 262 pounds, he will play on the defensive line at the next level. He will likely begin his Tide career at Bandit, but if he keeps growing into his frame, he could become an interior defensive lineman. He's got the potential to be a game-wrecker as a pass rusher from that position.

Johnson has been a priority target for DL coach Freddie Roach and the Alabama staff. Getting him to shut down his recruitment and cancel upcoming visits is huge for the Tide as they continue to build toward what should be a second consecutive elite class.
