Running back is one of the top priorities in the 2027 recruiting class for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama, even after signing 5-star EJ Crowell and uncovering a gem in Trae'shawn Brown in the last cycle. Continuing to stack talent at a position that has lacked it in recent seasons, at least for the standard in Tuscaloosa, is paramount to the program's future success.
Alabama has several targets it is pursuing in the 2027 class, and it appears that the Crimson Tide would prefer to sign two running backs again.
One of those targets is 4-star Mississippi native Tyson Robinson, who ranks as the No. 224 overall player in the 247 composite. Despite the fact that Robinson has noted in the past that he grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide, it appears that, ahead of his scheduled official visit next month, he's trending away from his childhood favorite.
Via Sports Illustrated, a recent prediction by Rivals recruiting expert Greg Smith has come in favor of Michigan to land Robinson.
The 4-star RB set a commitment date for this coming Saturday, before his tour of official visits is set to begin. That's not good news for Alabama, which is scheduled to host the Mississippi product on a visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend of June 5th.
4-star RB Tyson Robinson is trending away from Alabama in the 2027 recruiting class
Robinson missed his junior season of high school with an injury, but produced over 1200 rushing yards as a sophomore. He's remained a hot commodity in spite of the lost season, but it appears that Alabama is facing an uphill battle as his recruitment reaches the finish line.
All is not lost for DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, however.
There are plenty of talented running back recruits in this class that are priority targets for DeBoer and RB coach Robert Gillespie.
Fellow 4-stars Nigel Newkirk and Trey Martin are at the top of the Alabama board alongside Robinson, and the Crimson Tide sits in good spots with both heading into official visit season.
Newkirk is slated to be at Alabama for its visit kickoff over Memorial Day Weekend. Alabama picked up an expert prediction to land the Georgia native, who was a high school teammate of Tide freshmen Xavier Griffin and Jamarion Matthews at Gainesville High School. a month ago.
Martin is scheduled to be in Tuscaloosa on June 5th, the same time Robinson is slated to be in town. With the way things are trending, Martin may end up being the only RB who makes that trip.
