5-star wide receiver gives amazing update after his weekend Alabama visit

Monshun Sales spent the weekend in Tuscaloosa and coming out of his trip, the Tide sound like the frontrunner for his commitment.

This offseason made it clear that Alabama is not going to be a big-money spender in the Transfer Portal. The Tide got outbid for multiple top targets, including Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman.

That team-building reality puts even more pressure on Kalen DeBoer and Courtney Morgan to dominate the high school recruiting trail. They’ve landed back-to-back top 5 classes in Tuscaloosa, and could be on the way to their third straight after hosting 5-star 2027 wide receiver Monshun Sales on a weekend visit.

The 6-foot-5 Indiana native spoke with Andrew Bone of BamaOnLine after his trip, and just one line is enough for the Tide to feel like a front-runner for one of the most highly-coveted players in the entire country.

“This is everything I dreamed of…” Sales told Bone.

Alabama looks like a frontrunner for Monshun Sales, but the Tide aren’t alone

Sales is the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 9 overall player. A terrifying deep threat, Sales may not be the most refined route-runner, but he dominates with his long strides, breakaway speed, and huge catch radius. He’s a jump-ball machine who looks the part of a future first-round NFL Draft pick and a player who could dominate college football from Day 1 at the next level.

For an Alabama program that is attempting to win with younger talent in the Transfer Portal era, having advanced freshmen like Sales who are ready to take the field right away, at least from a physical standpoint, is critical. Building through high school takes years of development and is costly in terms of roster retention, preventing major portal splashes.

That type of build requires patience and a fanbase that saw Nick Saban win six national championships this century, isn’t interested in bearing a down year or two for the chance of a title contender on the other side.

Sales is a top priority for the Tide, but Alabama isn’t alone with that sentiment. He took unofficial visits to Texas A&M, Miami, and Ohio State this fall, and Indiana, his home-state team, coming off a national championship, is arguably the stiffest competition for the Tide. Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers are big portal spenders, but with Mark Cuban’s backing and the largest living alumni base in the country, their NIL warchest is big enough to enter the mix for five-star talent.

Alabama was a dream for Sales. Now the question is how long that first impression of Tuscaloosa will last.
