Last week's SEC Football Power Rankings did not please Alabama football fans. After Week 1 in college football, the Crimson Tide was ranked No. 13 in the SEC. Early in the season few results can produce big swings in the Power Rankings. As always each week's rankings are a snapshot of 'now' and not a prediction of how teams will finish the season.

SEC Football Power Rankings Sept. 7

  • No. 16 - Kentucky Wildcats (1-1) - The Cats held on to the bottom spot, but came close to escaping it against Ole Miss in Lexington. The Rebels won 30-23, but if the Cats had a QB, the result might have been different. Sadly for UK, Zach Calzada's performance drew boos from Kentucky fans.
  • No. 15 - Florida Gators (1-1) - Billy Napier did not have the game's top quarterback. DJ Lagway was inconsistent. Florida also had a glaring lapse in player discipline. South Florida is a good team, so a two-point loss (18-16) for the Gators should not be a major blemish. But losing at home to an in-state, non-Power Four team is a resume deflator.
  • No. 14 - Arkansas Razorbacks (2-0) - The Hogs might deserve a higher ranking, but wins over Alabama A&M and Arkansas State don't count for much.
  • No. 13 - Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0) - The Bulldogs got a big win over AP-ranked No. 12 Arizona State (24-20). I'm guessing the result is more about the strength of the SEC compared to the Big 12.
