- No. 8 - Ole Miss Rebels (3-0) - Last week, No. 6 - Giving up 526 yards to the Hogs in Oxford portends a Pete Golding defense not good enough to beat top teams. Lane Kiffin earns a hat tip for winning with a backup, transfer QB who played at Division II Ferris State last season.
- No. 7 - Oklahoma Sooners (3-0) - Last week, No. 7 - The Sooners gain nothing from a 42-3 road win over Temple.
- No. 6 - Texas Longhorns (2-1) - Last week, No. 1 - The college football world is catching on to what Texas fans realize. The Texas offense drags down championship hopes. Arch Manning has been un-special. How far have the Longhorns slipped? From the Texas site, Burnt Orange Nation, "The No. 7 Texas Longhorns looked lethargic yet again, playing against an outmatched opponent, struggling to get the offense going, and failing to launch both on the ground and through the air... The offense looked out of rhythm and, frankly, inept in every aspect of its offensive performance." Texas went backwards, beating an inept UTEP team 27-10.
- No. 5 - LSU Bengal Tigers (3-0) - Last week, No. 5 - LSU beat Florida in Baton Rouge 20-10. The result was more about DJ Lagway gifting the LSU defense with interceptions than it was LSU's prowess. The LSU offense, including Garrett Nussmeier, looking nothing but average behind a questionable offensive line.
