After he was written off (again), Bryce Young silences the haters with career day

One week after Panthers fans and plenty of NFL pundits wrote him (again), Bryce Young delivered a career performance in a win over the Falcons.

Something about the state of Georgia just pisses Byrce Young off.

Going back to his college days when he lit up Georgia in Atlanta during the 2021 SEC Championship, Young has risen to another level when he's had the opportunity to play there. A year ago, on the final weekend of the regular season, Young lit up the Falcons in Atlanta for a then-career-best performance.

He topped it on Sunday.

A week after everyone was ready to write Young off for good after he struggled in a home loss to the Saints, the former Alabama star delivered the best game of his career. In a 30-27 overtime win over the Falcons, Young threw for a career-high 448 yards and three touchdowns.

Young led a drive in the fourth quarter that gave the Panthers a 27-24 lead. The Falcons were able to tie it at the end of regulation before Young drove Carolina down the field for the game-winning field goal in overtime.

He was accurate and unafraid to push the ball down the field. He shook off an ankle injury to bounce back and lead Carolina to a pivotal victory. Dave Canales finally trusted Young to attack vertically, and Young delivered time and time again with throws just like this:

Bryce Young surpasses Cam Newton in the Panthers record book

Alabama beating Auburn is a phrase I hope to repeat in two weeks' time.

Cam Newton is one of the greatest players in Carolina Panthers history, and even this Alabama fan has a lot of respect for him as a football player. But on Sunday, he had to move over in the record books in Carolina.

Not only were the 448 yards for Young a career-high, but it was also a new Panthers single-game record. A record that was once held by Newton.

Young has had plenty of detractors since entering the NFL. Detractors that were in his own organization, too. Even after he had a terrific five-game stretch to end the 2024 season, there were plenty who still questioned whether he could be the franchise QB for the Panthers.

Those voices got loud again last week after the loss to the Saints, where Young only threw for 124 yards. It was the third straight game he had thrown for under 150 yards, and even though it was the first loss for Carolina since the end of September, the critics were out in full force.

They were a lot quieter on Sunday after Young ripped apart the Falcons and once again showed he is a franchise QB.
