Kalen DeBoer keeps winning on the field and Alabama general manager Courtney Morgan keeps winning off of it. On Monday, 2027 five-star QB Elijah Haven was predicted to land with the Crimson Tide just a few hours before four-star QB Trent Seaborn announced his commitment.
However, the positive momentum didn’t last long as four-star athlete Alexander Ward announced his de-commitment on Monday night. The 284th-ranked player in the 2027 class committed to Alabama in November, 2024, but the Marietta, Georgia native and IMG Academy product walked it back, potentially in favor of Colorado and Coach Prime.
The junior defensive back and wide receiver is the younger brother of 2026 three-star wide receiver Christian Ward, who committed to the Buffaloes in September. Alexander picked up an offer from Deion Sanders’ staff back in August. Colorado is expected to be a major player for Ward, who also holds offers from Texas A&M, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, and others.

4-star WR/DB Alexander Ward de-commits from Crimson Tide
With Ward’s de-commitment, Alabama now has the No. 7 class in 2027 with four commits, Seaborn, Jabarrius Garror, Jatori Williams, and Nash Johnson. Still, even without a fifth, the 2027 class has a considerable headstart compared to most of DeBoer and Morgan’s recruiting cycle.
This offseason, the Tide lagged behind other SEC powers well into June before going on a major commitment run to surge into the national top 5. The 2026 class now ranks third in the nation with five composite five-stars.
QB questions still dominate Alabama’s 2027 class
With the Haven speculation and Seaborn commitment news, attention had turned to the quarterback position with questions about whether or not DeBoer would be taking two quarterbacks for the second-straight cycle. After landing five-star Keelon Russell in 2025, DeBoer added both Jett Thomalla and Tayden Kaawa in the 2026 class.
While Seaborn is an in-state four-star recruit, his commitment won’t be enough to slow Alabama’s pursuit of Haven. Seaborn is the 18th-ranked QB in the 2027 class by 247Sports Composite Rankings while Haven, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native tops the charts at No. 1 and No. 26 overall.
