Alabama already ‘trending’ for in-state 2027 4-star QB with more than 30 offers

Trent Seaborn is one of the top in-state QB prospects for 2027, and Kalen DeBoer appears to be surging towards a potential early commitment.

While Kalen DeBoer is planning to wage a three-way quarterback battle throughout fall camp, Alabama’s long-term future at the most important position on the field is secure. Potentially as early as this season, 5-star Keelon Russell will take over, and if he lives up to expectations, will hold the job until he leaves for the NFL.

Russell is a viable answer at QB through at least the 2027 season. However, even a coach like DeBoer, who could be on the hot seat if he fails to lead the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff again this year, has to plan well beyond three years from now. That’s why, after landing two quarterback commits in the 2026 class, DeBoer and his staff have already turned their attention to the 2027 QB market and four-star Trent Seaborn.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder from Alabaster, Alabama, is the 19th-ranked quarterback in the 2027 class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. According to Rivals, the Crimson Tide have surpassed the South Carolina Gamecocks as the leaders in his recruitment.

Crimson Tide reportedly jumped to the front of the line for Trent Seaborn

Trending for a 2027 QB may not appear to be a major development this early in the process, but the 2027 QB recruiting cycle is already well underway. In the giant game of musical chairs that is QB recruitment, prospects are desperate to ensure they have a seat at the table, and that has led them to commit earlier and earlier each year. On Thursday, Notre Dame landed a commitment from 2027 four-star QB Teddy Jarrard, who was the third top-25 QB in the class to commit.

He may not be a five-star, but Seaborn is a highly-touted prospect, and the hype began for him in 2022 when he became the starting quarterback at Thompson High School as an eighth grader and led the team to the 7A State Championship. In 2023, he was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year after completing 72 percent of his throws for 2,601 yards and 27 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

Seaborn will be incredibly experienced at the high school level by the time he makes the jump to college, but he would likely be forced to sit and wait in Tuscaloosa before getting a chance to compete for the job. Alabama is certainly looking to add a 2027 QB, but the quarterback room will be crowded with 2026 four-stars Jett Thomalla and Tayden Kaawa waiting in the wings behind Russell.
