With no game in Week 9, Alabama's updated FPI ranking is close to last week. The Crimson Tide went down one spot to No. 6. Perhaps South Carolina's win over Oklahoma should have helped the Crimson Tide's ranking. It didn't. The now 5-3 Gamecocks moved up just one spot to No. 25.

LSU gained a bye-week bump. The Bengal Tigers moved up two spots and reached Alabama's previous No. 5 ranking.

Missouri was the biggest riser among SEC teams. The Tigers beat Arkansas 34-10 and moved up nine spots in the FPI to No. 19. Texas, beating a diminished Mississippi State without Kamario Taylor, moved up one spot to No. 7. Georgia beat Florida 27-8 and held firm at No. 4.

Like the Crimson Tide, the Texas A&M Aggies dropped one spot in the FPI. Mike Elko's team is now ranked No. 23.

The Kentucky Wildcats and the Tennessee Vols moved down two spots. The Vols now rank No. 14 in the FPI and may have caused the Crimson Tide's downgrade. The Wildcats are now ranked No. 26. Mississippi State also dropped two spots to No. 42.

Vanderbilt dropped three spots to No. 71. The Gators' loss to Georgia dropped Florida five spots to No. 22. Auburn was manhandled by Ole Miss 45-15. The Tigers dropped eight spots to No. 37. The Arkansas loss to Missouri dropped the Razorbacks 10 spots to No. 69. The SEC's biggest FPI loser was the Oklahoma Sooners. South Carolina scored 42 points against the Sooners. Brent Venables' team fell 11 spots to No. 30.

The good news for Crimson Tide fans is that Alabama's FPI-calculated Playoff probability received only a minor ding. Last week's FPI gave Alabama a 62.8% probability. This week, Alabama is at 60.3%. LSU's probability of beating Alabama moved up from 55.1% last week to 57%.

Knock off the Bengal Tigers in Baton Rouge and Alabama should become a near-lock for the Playoff.
