Alabama baseball is off to a 20-1 start to the 2025 season and passed its biggest test with flying colors this past weekend. The Crimson Tide completed a three-game sweep of preseason No. 1 Texas A&M in College Station to get off to a hot start in SEC play.

Alabama's bats had led the way in non-conference action, but its pitching staff shut down the Aggies this weekend, allowing just six total runs across three games. As a result, previously No. 19 Alabama made a sizable jump in this week's D1 College Baseball Top 25 poll:

Alabama moved into the Top 10 in the Baseball America Poll.

To show the strength of the SEC in baseball, being 12th in the country puts the Crimson Tide No. 7 in the SEC right now. The top four are all SEC teams with Texas and Oklahoma also in the Top 10.

It's been an incredible start to 2025 for the Crimson Tide. Led by shortstop Justin Lebron, who is ranked as the No. 1 collegiate prospect in the country for the 2026 MLB Draft, per Baseball America, Alabama looks like a legitimate contender in the SEC.

Not bad for a team that started the season unranked with few expecting they would be a player in such a deep and talented conference.

What's next for Alabama baseball?

There are some fair questions about whether Alabama's sweep of Texas A&M says more about the Crimson Tide or the Aggies. Texas A&M has certainly disappointed this season from their lofty preseason ranking, but anytime you can sweep a team on the road in this conference, that's an impressive accomplishment.

The good news is we won't have to wait long to find out. While Alabama has a midweek tune-up at home against South Alabama on Tuesday, the big show is this weekend at the Joe.

No. 1 ranked and undefeated Tennessee comes to Sewell-Thomas this weekend. If Alabama can somehow earn a series win over the Vols, they should see an even bigger jump in next week's rankings.
