Kalen DeBoer has led Alabama to one of the top recruiting classes in the country in the 2026 cycle. There are still a few months until the early signing period, but the Crimson Tide holds 21 commitments, highlighted by five 5-stars, and is a consensus Top 5 class in the country right now.

Things are mostly wrapped up, but there's still a little bit of meat left on the bone. DeBoer and the staff hope to add a Tank to the arsenal in the next week or two. With or without a sixth 5-star, this class is elite and should keep the cupboard stocked fully with blue chip talent in Tuscaloosa.

It's the type of class that leads to bold talk.

4-star DL Kamhariyan Johnson is one of those 21 commitments. The Muscle Shoals native is part of an increased focus on in-state recruits in the 2026 cycle. Johnson is one of the longer-standing recruits in the Tide's class, committing to Alabama back in April.

Johnson was interviewed recently, and he made a bold proclamation about what he and his classmates will accomplish during their time at Alabama.

Kamhariyan Johnson says his class will "definitely be able to win a National Championship"

Nick Saban is gone, and despite last season's disappointment in DeBoer's debut, the goal has not changed in Tuscaloosa. The talk around the program, and with the guys Alabama is recruiting, remains National Championships. That's the top goal for every single Alabama football team. The current players understand that, and so do the incoming recruits.

There's a standard at Alabama that wasn't reached last season. That disappointment has fueled the current team as they look to prove that nothing has changed at the Capstone despite the GOAT no longer roaming the sideline.

Johnson's statement is bold, but it is the correct mindset. When you come to Alabama, you expect to win a National Championship. Perhaps multiple.

Alabama is currently in its longest drought without a National Championship since the gap between Gene Stallings' only title in 1992 and Saban's first in 2009. Between Saban's debut and 2023, every recruiting class that came through Tuscaloosa won a title. The rule was, if you came to Alabama and you stayed three years, you were going to be a champion.

Alabama has now gone an unimaginable four consecutive seasons without winning it all. The current Crimson Tide players will look to keep it from being a fifth. Johnson and his classmates plan to end the drought, or perhaps add on to what the 2025 team is able to accomplish.
