A round-up of the Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend of April 11th through April 13th:
Alabama baseball falters at home against Mississippi State
Alabama baseball dropped its second consecutive SEC series, this time at home to Mississippi State. Just like last weekend against Auburn, the Tide dug itself a big hole with a run-rule loss on Friday to open the series. Zane Adams got roughed up, giving up seven runs in four innings as the Bulldogs rolled to a 13-3 win.
On Saturday, Alabama got a great outing from Riley Quick and just enough offense spearheaded by Richie Bonomolo's three RBI. Bonomolo had a two-RBI double and a Sac fly, with Jason Torres adding the other run with an RBI single to help the Crimson Tide to a 4-1 win.
On Sunday, the offense totally cratered, managing just two hits in a 4-2 loss to Mississippi State. The loss dropped Alabama to just 8-7 in SEC play and falling into a tie for 8th place in the league standings.
Alabama lands commitment from 4-star DL Kamhariyan Johnson
While A-Day in and of itself was a swing-and-a-miss for Alabama football, it wasn't a total wash. Late Saturday afternoon, the Crimson Tide landed a commitment from 4-star in-state DL Kamhariyan Johnson, its fifth commitment in the 2026 class.
Johnson is the second pledge from the state of Alabama in this class so far, with several more seemingly on the horizon. Johnson held an impressive list of offers, including from the likes of Clemson, Auburn, Miami, USC, and Ole Miss.
Johnson projects as a Bandit in Kane Wommack's defensive scheme, though he has the frame to bulk up further and potentially play on the interior of the defensive line.
JD Davison signs 2-year, NBA contract with the Boston Celtics
JD Davison spent the first three years of his professional career on a two-way contract, meaning he spent the majority of his time in the G-League. This year, Davison took home the G-League MVP award and was quickly rewarded by the Celtics with a two-year, standard NBA contract. His days in the G-League appear to be over.
Davison enjoyed a brilliant season for G-League Maine, averaging 25.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
Davison will be playoff eligible for the Celtics, though he's not expected to see much, if any, playoff time in the postseason as Boston looks to repeat as NBA champions.
