Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend of May 9-11.

Alabama baseball earns critical series win over Georgia

Alabama came into the weekend needing a big series win over No. 6 Georgia to position itself to host a Regional for the second time in three years.

The series got off to a rocky start with a 19-3 loss in the opener on Friday to the Bulldogs. But Alabama bounced back in a big way in the final two games despite a rainy weekend.

Despite several delays in game two, the Crimson Tide rolled to a 9-3 win. Homers by Justin Lebron, Bryce Fowler, and Richie Bonomolo Jr. paced the offensive effort.

In the series finale on Sunday, Alabama broke out to a big lead and held on for the win. Jason Torres and Kade Snell homered as the Crimson Tide took a 4-0 advantage. An RBI double by Lebron pushed the lead to 5-2 after Georgia had cut it in half.

Carson Ozmer shut the door in the final inning to earn the series win. Alabama will head to Gainesville to finish the regular season next weekend. A series win over the Gators would all but guarantee a Tuscaloosa Regional.

Alabama softball to host Regional for 20th consecutive season

It hasn't been the year Patrick Murphy and Alabama hoped for, but it speaks to the program he has built that finishing 15th in the country would be disappointing. But the Crimson Tide will host a Regional for the 20th straight season and will play in the NCAA Tournament for the 26th year in a row.

The Tuscaloosa Regional will get started on Friday in Tuscaloosa. Joining the Crimson Tide will be Virginia Tech, Belmont, and Jackson State. Alabama will play Jackson State on Friday at 5pm CT to kick off the Regional.

Alabama is paired with the Norman Regional and would likely face No. 2 Oklahoma in the Super Regionals if they advance.

Alabama football makes final two for top player in Minnesota

Jackson, Minnesota athlete Roman Voss, the top player in his state, has Alabama in his final two with the home state Golden Gophers. Voss is a consensus 4-star prospect and is ranked 208th overall in the 247 Composite rankings.

Alabama is recruiting Voss as a TE. At 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, Voss is an intriguing athlete at the position who could line up at several spots. Voss will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on the weekend of June 13.
