Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend:

Alabama football dominates Mississippi State 56-23

Football passed its biggest test of the season to date, going on the road to Starkville and blowing out No. 16 Mississippi State 56-23. Keelon Russell stated his Heisman Trophy case, outdueling Kamario Taylor in the highly anticipated head-to-head matchup.

Alabama was the more physical team from the jump, outgaining Mississippi State 181-18 on the ground. Alabama set the tone on the first play of the game, lining up in 13 personnel (1 RB, 3 TEs) and running the ball out of the old-school I-formation.

The Crimson Tide is now 5-0 and looks the part of a legitimate National Championship contender. The coming weeks will tell the tale, but it looks like this is the best team of Kalen DeBoer's tenure in Tuscaloosa and proof of concept of what he's building at the Capstone.

Alabama moves up to No. 6 in the AP Poll

Despite nobody losing ahead of them, the Tide leapfrogged Indiana to No. 6 in the AP Poll this week after the 33-point win over Mississippi State. The only reason Alabama remains that low at this point is the preseason bias remaining in the poll.

Alabama opened the year ranked 13th with plenty in the national media doubting whether DeBoer and the Crimson Tide were actual contenders in the SEC or national title race. Most had Alabama on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff.

After the win over Mississippi State, Alabama is in excellent shape for the playoff.

Alabama-Georgia betting odds continue to fluctuate greatly

It is pretty clear that oddsmakers don't have a good feel for how the Alabama-Georgia game is going to go. The Bulldogs were an early 2.5- to 3-point favorite in the look-ahead line ahead of the weekend's results, but Alabama's dominance of Mississippi State brought some major fluctuations.

The line has jumped on FanDuel back-and-forth over the last 24 hours from Alabama being a 1.5-point underdog to, as of early Monday morning, the Crimson Tide being favored by 1.5 points.

It's not often you can get either team as an underdog, so bettors are taking advantage, and the money is making the line go back and forth. This game is a true toss-up.

Alabama soccer stays unbeaten in SEC play with shutout win over Ole Miss

No. 5 Alabama soccer moved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in SEC play on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout of Ole Miss.

It was the eighth shutout of the season for keeper Madi Munguia, and she's just two shy of the single-season program record set by McKinley Crone in 2022.

Wes Hart's group netted two early goals and then held on from there. Ashley Roni scored on a header in the 9th minute to put the Crimson Tide ahead 1-0 early. Kennedy Garcia gave Alabama some breathing room with a goal in the 27th.

Alabama now heads back on the road to take on Florida in Gainesville on Thursday.

Alabama volleyball falls in competitive match to No. 8 Texas

Alabama volleyball fell to 0-4 in SEC play and 8-5 overall on the season with a 3-1 loss to Texas in Austin on Sunday. It was one of the more competitive matches of SEC play thus far for the Crimson Tide, however, which could point to them turning the corner down the stretch.

All four sets were close, with the Tide winning the second set before dropping the final two:

  1. Texas 25-23
  2. Alabama 25-23
  3. Texas 25-21
  4. Texas 25-22

Alabama will look to end the SEC losing streak at home on Friday vs. South Carolina.
