Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes:

Kalen DeBoer comments on Noah Rogers' lack of usage for Alabama

When Alabama landed NC State transfer Noah Rogers in the portal, it was believed that he would be an integral part of the Crimson Tide's offense. Instead, he suffered a devastating knee injury during spring practice that threatened to cost him the entire season.

He rehabbed hard and got back for Week 4 vs. South Carolina, but has seen only limited playing time since then. When Ryan Coleman-Williams went down in the fourth quarter against Georgia, many expected that it would open the door for Rogers.

Instead, he barely played against Tennessee and Texas A&M, with sophomore Derek Meadows taking the majority of the snaps instead. Kalen DeBoer explained what's going on with Rogers on Wednesday's SEC coaches' teleconference:

"We really think highly of Noah," DeBoer said. "He's a really good football player, and we want to find ways to incorporate him into the offense on a higher level with more opportunities, but that always means that you're taking someone else off the field, as well."

Lane Kiffin is already playing mind games with Alabama during the bye week

Let the mind games begin over a week before Alabama travels to Baton Rouge to face off against LSU.

Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin threw out some rat poison on Wednesday's teleconference:

"Getting ready for the most talented team we’ve played, as you really look at it," Kiffin said. "When you combine offense and defense, these guys really are loaded, look like the old Alabama teams. Really long, fast receivers. Really special, unique defensive players. So, this is gonna be a really big challenge for us to prepare really well and play really well.”

If you believe that Kiffin actually thinks that, then I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you for a bargain!

Amari Allen named to the All-SEC 1st team by the league's coaches

Alabama sophomore guard Amari Allen was named to the preseason All-SEC 1st team by the league's coaches this week.

Allen is coming off a strong freshman season that led to him entering the NBA Draft. He ultimately decided to follow Labaron Philon's path, departing the draft and returning to Tuscaloosa for a second season. He and Alabama hope that leads to a Philon-like leap.

The exhibition slate set the table for it. Allen looked fantastic in the Tide's three preseason matchups, averaging 20/5/4 on shooting splits of 54/54/84.
