On Friday, plenty of Alabama football fans are probably still a bit down in the dumps after the program missed out on 5-star EDGE Tank Jones. He spurned the Crimson Tide to move to Eugene to play for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks? That's exactly what happened.
Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the only recruiting setback that will arrive for Kalen DeBoer this week. On Saturday, 4-star linebacker Anthony Davis Jr. is going to make his announcement and Bama is a finalist. However, the recent buzz suggests that Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss are going to win this recruiting battle:

Alabama is expected to lose out on 4-star LB Anthony Davis Jr. to Ole Miss
While this isn't going to provide the same kind of heartbreak that Jones did, it's still disappointing nonetheless for DeBoer and his staff. The 6-2, 200-pound Davis is an elite playmaker who has picked up a mind-blowing 51 offers this cycle.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Davis is ranked four stars, the No. 30 LB in the country and No. 47 player overall from Georgia. He took official visits this year to Alabama, Michigan, Ole Miss and Auburn - those four schools are his finalists leading up to his weekend decision.
While missing out on Jones and Davis is going to sting for DeBoer, we can't just focus on the negatives here. Don't forget even for a second that DeBoer and his staff have been crushing it out on the recruiting trail, with 21 known pledges on board for the 2026 class.
This includes the verbals of 5-star standouts Xavier Griffin, Cederian Morgan, Jorden Edmonds and Jireh Edwards. As a whole, the current '26 haul is ranked No. 4 in the country by 247Sports. That's nothing to sneeze at and more good news should be coming for the staff this summer and fall. With that said, fans should mentally prepare themselves for Davis to pick an SEC rival over the Tide. DeBoer will then quickly shift his focus to other LB targets.
