One of the top players in the state of Alabama for the 2028 class is 4-star Thompson WR Dedrick Kimbrough.
The 6-foot-3 receiver is currently ranked as the No. 188 overall player and No. 10 in the state of Alabama in the 247 Composite. He's generated a ton of interest and is obviously a high priority for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.
But it sounds like Alabama has some early ground to make up with a fellow SEC program.
Kimbrough recently told Justin Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine that Oklahoma was doing the best job of recruiting him so far.
“Oklahoma, I say they’re pretty close to that number one spot,” Kimbrough said, via TDA.
That doesn't mean Alabama is in trouble. It's still very early in his recruitment, but now the Crimson Tide knows who their biggest competition is for Kimbrough right now.

The biggest thing working in Alabama's favor in Kimbrough's recruitment is where he goes to high school and the QB throwing him the ball.
Alabama commitment Trent Seaborn will once again be throwing to Kimbrough this fall at Thompson in Alabaster. They had a nice connection last year, too, with Kimbrough producing 686 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore.
Seaborn has been a vocal recruiter for Alabama since he announced his pledge to the Crimson Tide last fall. You can bet that he'll be in the ear of Kimbrough more and more as his teammate's recruitment continues to heat up over the next year. If that connection continues to grow in high school, it could be enticing for Kimbrough to follow his quarterback to Tuscaloosa.
Kimbrough is already planning four visits this fall, per Smith and TDA. Along with Oklahoma and Alabama, he has high interest in Florida and Notre Dame.
Alabama is looking to make a splash in the 2028 recruiting class after disappointing results in 2027, at least from a fan's perspective. They've gotten off to a hot start already, landing seven commitments and surging to the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
A big part of the plan for 2028 for DeBoer and his staff will include an in-state push. Alabama features some elite talent in the 2028 class, and the early commitment of 4-star QB Kingston Preyear gives the Crimson Tide some significant momentum inside its borders.
Kimbrough would be another step toward a dominant in-state showing.
