Alabama fans are sold on Ty Simpson after another stellar first half

Ty Simpson wasn't quite perfect in the first half against Wisconsin, but he was about as close as you could get and now Tide fans are buying back in on the season.

Alabama entered Kalen DeBoer’s second year with plenty of pressure and major expectations, and both fell squarely on the shoulders of first-time starting quarterback Ty Simpson. The redshirt junior didn’t look up to the task in Week 1 against Florida State, but then, neither did anyone else in Crimson and White.

However, since that Week 1 loss to the Seminoles, Simpson has been perfect, well, nearly perfect. In Week 2, Simpson completed all 17 of his pass attempts for 226 yards and three touchdowns before ceding the field to Austin Mack and Keelon Russell, the two quarterbacks he beat out in fall camp for the starting job.

However, that was Louisiana Monroe. The Warhawks are a far cry from the SEC competition he’ll eventually face. Wisconsin, though, is quite a bit closer. The Badgers might be a lower-tier Big Ten team, but that hardly makes Simpson’s hot streak any less impressive. In the first half against the Badgers, Simpson went 13-for-14 for 192 yards and two touchdowns.

If there were still questions lingering throughout the fanbase, most of them have been answered. Alabama fans are sold on their new starting quarterback and might be buying back in on DeBoer and the entire season.

Ty Simpson is getting Alabama fans’ hopes back up in time for SEC play

Simpson’s struggles, when they’ve come this season, have been on pressured dropbacks. Aside from a dart to Ryan Williams in the first quarter before taking a big lick from a defender, Simpson hasn’t faced much pressure in Week 3. He’s taken full advantage.

That’s another piece of good news for Crimson Tide fans. Again, Wisconsin isn’t Georgia, which the Tide will face in two weeks in Athens to kick off SEC play, but the Badgers have a much superior front to ULM, and Simpson’s offensive line has held up well. Kadyn Proctor, who allowed six pressures in Week 1, has been stellar.

Not all of those six pressures that Proctor, a likely first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, surrendered were the junior left tackle’s fault. Some were a result of an indecisive quarterback who wasn’t trusting his eyes and throwing with anticipation. That was understandable in his first career start, and it seems as though it’s been corrected by DeBoer, Ryan Grubb, and quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan.

He still has to prove it against SEC competition, but Alabama fans are already sold on their new QB.
