When the Texas A&M Aggies march into Bryant-Denny on Oct. 24, Alabama will be coming off two tough games against Georgia and Tennessee in Knoxville. The Aggies have a chance of going into the game with a better record than the Crimson Tide. Mike Elko's Aggies could be 6-1, or even 7-0. Winning in Baton Rouge will not be easy, and the road might be unkind against Missouri as well.

After winning 11 games last season, the Aggies go into the 2026 season as the SEC's second-most experienced team, behind Ole Miss. The Aggies' roster has played 31,368 snaps. Alabama is way behind at No. 72 among FBS teams, with 19,502 snaps.

Drilling down, the Aggies have a glaring advantage with 16,715 defensive snaps (No. 6) to Alabama's 7,543 offensive snaps (No. 89). Given that Texas A&M Head Coach Mike Elko is considered to have one of college football's best defensive minds, the game could be low scoring.

Not every source is confident about the Aggies. The word 'regression' has been used when analyzing the Aggies' defense. At linebacker, the Aggies are expected to take a step back from last season.

Consistent with most expert opinions, SI.com's Trey Bohne is optimistic about how much A&M has progressed under Elko. But even Bohne sees a possible "worst case" in which A&M loses three road games to LSU, Missouri, and Alabama.

Bohne has another warning that should chill A&M fans. It is the Aggies' quarterback, Marcel Reed, whose "ceiling is behind him." Reed is a legit dual-threat QB, loaded with talent, but the way he finished last season was shocking. Against Texas and Miami, Reed passed for 417 yards, with zero touchdown passes and four interceptions. He ran effectively against the Longhorns, but the Canes stuffed his rushing plays, holding him to 27 yards. The Aggies' offense failed to score a touchdown against Miami.

Reed will be helped by a talented receiver corps, led by Mario Craver and including last season's Crimson Tide producer, Isaiah Horton. Terry Bussey is another dangerous wideout poised for a big season.

Alabama Football Game Prediction

Following an almost off week against The Citadel, the Aggies will be the fresher team. That breather also gives A&M an extra week of preparation for the Crimson Tide. Eight consecutive games will affect Alabama. The Crimson Tide will be battle-weary, with physical tolls.

I doubt Alabama would win a shootout. Fortunately, I don't expect that the Tide will have to explode offensively. If any team can cloak A&M's receivers, it is Alabama. In a somewhat low-scoring slugfest, Alabama wins. Alabama Crimson Tide 24 - Texas A&M 17
