After college football's Week 2, seven SEC football teams dropped in ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI). Alabama Football moved in the opposite direction, up nine spots to a current ranking of No. 4. Only one SEC team is ranked higher than the Crimson Tide: Texas at No. 2.

With a 69-3 thumping of Oklahoma State, the Oregon Ducks zoomed up to the FPI's No. 1 ranking. The second-biggest moves up the FPI were the Vanderbilt Commodores and the South Florida Bulls, jumping 17 spots. The Commodores beat Virginia Tech in Blacksburg 44-20, and South Florida upset the Florida Gators in The Swamp 18-16. The Gators dropped 11 spots to No. 23.

The Dawgs dropped four spots in the FPI to No. 6. Missouri (2-0) beat the Kansas Jayhawks in Columbia 42-31. The win boosted the Tigers up seven spots in the FPI to No. 12. Coupled with Baylor's win over SMU, Auburn's win moved the Tigers up five spots to No. 11 in the FPI.

Early in every season, the FPI can produce unexplainable oddities. One example is the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs upset Arizona State in Starkville, 24-20. The Sun Devils went into the game ranked No. 12 in the AP Poll. The win dropped the Bulldogs three spots in the FPI to No. 51.
