The 2024 college football season came to an end last night and we can mercifully flip the page to 2025.
Plenty of pundits have released their way-too-early Top 25's for next season and the majority do not consider Alabama football as a serious national championship contender for next season. But I prefer to look at what the oddsmakers have to say because these are people who have actual monetary value on the line.
FanDuel has released its odds for a plethora of 2025 college football bets: win total over/unders, national championship odds, Heisman Trophy odds, etc. There's even an early line for Alabama's season opener in Tallahassee against Florida State.
The win total over/under for Alabama is a bit stunning and has to be the lowest total set for the Crimson Tide since 2008. As of now, FanDuel has set the over/under on Alabama's wins in 2025 at 8.5.
Going under that number would mean Alabama had a worse season in year two than they did in year one under Kalen DeBoer. If that turns out to be the case, would DeBoer get a third year in Tuscaloosa? Even if so, he would be on the hottest seat in the country heading into 2026.
The rest of FanDuel's Alabama-specific odds
While the 8.5 over/under win total is a bit jarring to read, FanDuel still has the Crimson Tide as one of the betting favorites for the 2025 national championship. The Crimson Tide currently has the seventh best odds to hoist the trophy at +1600. Only Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, and Notre Dame have better odds than Alabama.
For the Heisman Trophy, FanDuel believes Alabama's top contender is rising sophomore WR Ryan Williams. Williams is +3500 to win the stiff-arm, which gives him the 17th best odds at this point.
You can also bet on Ty Simpson (+5000) and Austin Mack (+10000), two of the three quarterbacks vying for the starting job along with incoming freshman Keelon Russell.
An early line for Alabama's season opener in Tallahassee against Florida State has also been released. The Crimson Tide currently sits as a 7.5-point road favorite over the Seminoles.
