On Friday, Alabama football set the date for its annual A-Day game, which will be held at Bryant-Denny Stadium at the conclusion of spring practice. That means the countdown for the 2025 season is officially on.
Spring practice always has more buzz when there's a QB competition, and with Jalen Milroe off to the NFL, the Tide will have a full-fledged battle for the starting job that could extend all the way into fall camp. It all starts in the spring, however.
While the battle will rage during spring practice, fans and a national audience will get their first peak at the competition on April 12th.
Redshirt junior Ty Simpson is the favorite to win the job, but he will be pushed by Washington transfer Austin Mack and 5-star freshman Keelon Russell.
Of course, just because one player looks better during the A-Day game doesn't mean that player will ultimately win the starting job. The game itself is just a glimpse and more for the fans to meet the new team. Typically, the play calling on both sides of the ball is as vanilla as it gets so as to not tip your hand to opponents who are undoubtedly watching.
There will be plenty of other new faces out there to see, too, including some talented portal additions like WR Isaiah Horton and LB Nikhai Hill-Green. There's other highly touted freshmen who enrolled early to go through the spring like 5-stars Michael Carroll and Dijon Lee.
Kickoff time for the annual A-Day game will be announced at a later date.
