Alabama and Georgia have emerged as two of the best teams in college football through the season's first five weeks. Whichever team emerges from Saturday night's battle in Tuscaloosa victorious will have a strong case to be ranked No. 1 on Sunday and will also take a gigantic step toward Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.
Alabama and Georgia are off to identical 5-0 starts to the 2026 season. Everyone expected the Bulldogs to be in this position, but there was significant doubt nationally - and even inside the fanbase - for the Crimson Tide.
Instead, Alabama looks like a national title contender and has already earned impressive road SEC wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State. Georgia will provide the ultimate test for whether Alabama has taken the necessary step forward, particularly from a physicality standpoint, or not.
Last season's humiliating loss to the Bulldogs in Atlanta with the SEC Championship on the line is still fresh on the minds of Kalen DeBoer, the coaching staff, and the entire locker room.

What will the weather be like for Alabama football on Saturday?
The tropical storm brewing in the Gulf could lead to some severe weather on Saturday, with substantial rainfall potentially being a major factor in the game. As always, however, weather is super unpredictable this early, and it could end up much ado about nothing. This time last week, everyone was sure Alabama and Mississippi State were going to play in a monsoon, and I don't believe there was a drop of rain during the game in Starkville. So we'll wait and see.
Alabama vs. Georgia series history
Alabama leads the all-time series 45-27-4, and Saturday night in Tuscaloosa will be the 77th all-time meeting between the two. The Crimson Tide has won 10 of the last 12 meetings, and that includes a 7-2 mark against the Bulldogs since Kirby Smart has been in Athens. Kalen DeBoer is 2-1 head-to-head against Smart.
But the Bulldogs won the last one, and that's all that either cares about. Georgia dominated Alabama in Atlanta, 28-7, in last year's SEC Championship Game. That avenged the Crimson Tide's win between the hedges during the regular season.
Georgia has not beaten Alabama on either campus since Matthew Stafford threw a game-winning touchdown pass in overtime in Tuscaloosa in 2007.
