After a one-week reprieve, Alabama gets back into SEC action this weekend at home against South Carolina.
The Gamecocks come in desperate for a win after last week's home loss to Mississippi State, which further cranked up the heat for head coach Shane Beamer. Desperate teams can be problematic, as Alabama saw last week against Florida State.
Alabama will hope to start faster and avoid having to play from behind for a third week in a row. Two weeks ago in Lexington, the Crimson Tide trailed 17-13 at halftime against Kentucky before outscoring the Wildcats 32-0 in the second half. And then last weekend against Florida State, the Crimson Tide trailed 21-6 late in the second quarter before outscoring the Seminoles 44-15 the rest of the way.
If Alabama wants to be a serious contender in the National Championship race, it'll have to shake off the slow starts that have plagued it and get back to playing the championship-level defense we saw in Week 2 instead of what we saw against FSU last week.

This will be the 19th all-time meeting between Alabama and South Carolina and the third straight season in which the Crimson Tide and Gamecocks have met on the gridiron. Alabama holds a 14-4 overall record in the series, with Kalen DeBoer winning both of his matchups in 2024 and 2025, though both game down to the wire.
Alabama knocked off South Carolina 27-25 two years ago in Tuscaloosa and had to withstand a Hail Mary attempt at the end. Last year in Columbia, Ty Simpson led consecutive touchdown drives to tie the game and then take the lead as the Crimson Tide escaped Williams-Brice with a 29-22 win.
