Week 5 SEC Football Power Rankings
- No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats (2-2) - Last week No. 16. The unimpressive Wildcats lost on the road to South Carolina, 35-13.
- No. 15 Arkansas Razorbacks (2-3) - Last week No. 15. Embarrassed by Notre Dame in Fayetteville, 56-13, the Hogs barely escaped the SEC's lowest ranking.
- No. 14 Florida Gators (1-3) - Last week No. 14. For Florida fans, an off week was a blessing.
- No. 13 South Carolina (3-2) - Last week No. 13. The Gamecocks got a must-win over Kentucky, but beating the Wildcats gained no rankings boost.
- No. 12 Auburn Tigers (3-2) - Last week No. 11. The Auburn defense continues to impress. It can now be said that Hugh Freeze's optimism about finally having a quarterback who can run his system was delusional. His system may be as flawed as Jackson Arnold clearly is.
- No. 11 Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-1) - Last week, No. 12. State lost in Starkville to Tennessee in overtime, 41-34. The Vols escaped via sacks and tackles for a loss, plus two turnovers that turned into two Tennessee non-offensive touchdowns.
- No. 10 LSU Bengal Tigers (4-1) - Last week, No. 5. The LSU offense played well enough to win. The Bengal Tigers' offense continued its downward spiral in the 24-19 loss to Ole Miss. A close loss in an SEC road game does not warrant such a ranking drop, except that LSU has zero quality wins in its resume.
- No. 9 Tennessee Vols (4-1) - Last week, No. 4. The Vols managed to make Mississippi State look better than they are. The two rosters are not close in talent. A 41-34 OT win in Starkville is the equivalent of a loss.
