- No. 8 Missouri Tigers (5-0) - Last week, No. 9. Though the Tigers won 42-6, a win over UMass means next to nothing. Tigers' QB Beau Pribula had a big game, completing 21 straight passes. Missouri's resume is tarnished by an ESPN SOS of No. 105.
- No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners (4-0) - Last week, No. 7. The Sooners were off in Week 5.
- No. 6 Vanderbilt Commodores (5-0) - Last week, No. 10. The Dores may not be good enough to beat Oklahoma or Missouri, but Clark Lea has instilled belief in a program with a historical reason to doubt. Vandy beat Utah State 55-35, riding five touchdown passes by Diego Pavia.
- No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels (5-0) - Last week, No. 7. What Lane Kiffin is doing with the Rebels is impressive. His transfer QB, brought in as a backup, had more than 800 players ranked above him in the Transfer Portal. Now, Trinidad Chambliss is No. 3 among SEC starting quarterbacks, averaging 8.6 yards per play. The former Ferris State Bulldog is listed as 6'1". More likely, he is under 6 feet, making his production more amazing.
- No. 4 Texas Longhorns (3-1) - Last week, No. 6. The Longhorns were off in Week 5. The Texas offense is troublesome because maybe Arch Manning cannot match his pre-starter hype. The Texas defense is stout enough to win games, and Sarkisian's offensive schemes are too solid to abandon. Manning does not have to play like a superstar for the Horns to win.
- No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies (4-0) Last week, No. 2- The question with the Aggies is how quality was the road win over Notre Dame. The Irish destroyed Arkansas on Saturday, but that win does not rate them as a top team. Beating UTSA, Utah State, and only beating Auburn, 16-10, leaves the Aggies with more to prove.
- No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (3-1) - Last week, No. 1. Georgia will bounce back after losing to Alabama. They are still a threat to make it to the SEC Championship Game.
- No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (3-1) - Last week, No. 3. Alabama football got the statement win the program and Kalen DeBoer much needed. Beating the Bulldogs was no fluke. Alabama was the better team.
