It appears that not many University of Georgia students study history. That is Alabama Football vs. Georgia history. To a typical college student, Sept. 27, 2008, is more than half a lifetime ago. Apparently, many Georgia students have no recollection of what happened on that day.

Alabama Football played Georgia in Athens in 2008. Georgia chose a Blackout theme for the game. The Georgia program was so clever that black jerseys were a surprise to Georgia players when they arrived at their Sanford Stadium locker room.

The Georgia Bulldogs first used a Blackout theme in 2007, when hosting the Auburn Tigers. The Tigers were ranked No. 18, and the No. 10-ranked Bulldogs beat them soundly 45-20.

The 2007 Blackout was a hit with Georgia fans, leading to doing it again in 2008. In Atlanta, No. 24-ranked Alabama opened the 2008 season with an impressive win over No. 8-ranked Clemson. On the same date as this season's game, the Alabama Crimson Tide arrived in Athens ranked No. 8. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 3. Georgia fans were intoxicated in anticipation of their Dawgs taking away the Crimson Tide's growing momentum.

The game did not go as the Bulldogs' fans expected. At halftime, Alabama led 31-0. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 31-10. The Bulldogs put up a mostly meaningless 20 points in the fourth quarter, making the game's final score 41-30. For those who did not see the game, the final score was misleading. It was very much a blowout.

A few years ago, Dakota Cox wrote a perfect historical summation of Georgia's Blackout against the Alabama Crimson Tide: "With Georgia hosting a night game, they decided to have a black-out game to intimidate the inexperienced Tide team. However, the Bulldogs ended up wearing black to their own funeral."

With Georgia fans in mourning after the game, they likely missed the significance of what transpired for Alabama Football during the first five weeks of the 2008 season. Nick Saban had brought the Crimson Tide back and done so quickly. The birth of college football's greatest ever Dynasty came against Clemson and Georgia in 2008.

The outcomes of game's are not determined by what color fans or even players wear. Still, the Bulldogs will be courting some bad juju if they 'Blackout' against the Crimson Tide. By all means they should do it.
