Sometimes, all the Alabama Crimson Tide need to do is show up to win games. When you have an undisputed top-four program in the sport, these sorts of things tend to happen. Alabama has claimed more national championships than anyone with 18, and boasts the second-best all-time winning percentage at a sensational .733. To achieve that standard, you must beat the tar out of opponents.
So, after looking at all the teams Alabama has never played before in FBS, as well as needing to get other teams on the schedule again to finally get a win over them, what about the ones the Crimson Tide have played but have never lost to? As expected, there are quite a few. It is a construct of being a power broker in college football, as well as not playing many of these teams throughout its history.
So without further ado, here are all the Power Four teams Alabama has never lost a game to before.
Power Four teams the Alabama Crimson Tide have never lost a game to
Per Winsipedia, these are all the Power Four teams that Alabama has an undefeated record against.
- Baylor Bears (2-0)
- BYU Cougars (2-0)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (6-0)
- Houston Cougars (9-0)
- Illinois Fighting Illini (1-0)
- Iowa State Cyclones (1-0)
- Kansas State Wildcats (1-0)
- Michigan State Spartans (2-0)
- North Carolina Tar Heels (1-0)
- North Carolina State Wolfpack (5-0)
- Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-0)
- SMU Mustangs (2-0)
- Washington Huskies (5-0)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (1-0)
Keep in mind that the only previous meeting with Texas Tech in 2005 had to be vacated by Alabama...
Heading into the 2026 college football season, Alabama has not lost to 14 Power Four teams it has played before, 15 if we want to count Texas Tech. As expected, these teams all hail from the other Power Four leagues outside of the SEC. Shockingly, Kentucky has beaten Alabama twice in their ... one-of-a-kind football history. That said, Alabama being 9-0 vs. the Houston Cougars is staggering.
Let's now turn our attention to the teams that are currently competing at the Group of Six level.
Group of Six teams the Alabama Crimson Tide have never lost a game to
And as a surprise to absolutely no one, Alabama has never lost a game to these Group of Six teams.
- Arkansas State Red Wolves (3-0)
- Army Black Knights (1-0)
- Bowling Green Falcons (1-0)
- Colorado State Rams (2-0)
- East Carolina Pirates (1-0)
- Florida Atlantic Owls (2-0)
- Florida International Panthers (1-0)
- Fresno State Bulldogs (1-0)
- Georgia Southern Eagles (1-0)
- Georgia State Panthers (2-0)
- Kent State Golden Flashes (2-0)
- Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (9-0)
- Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (3-0)
- New Mexico State Aggies (2-0)
- North Texas Mean Green (4-0)
- San Jose State Spartans (1-0)
- South Florida Bulls (3-0)
- Temple Owls (3-0)
- Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-0)
- Utah State Aggies (2-0)
- UTEP Miners (1-0)
- Washington State Cougars (1-0)
- Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (4-0)
As you can see, there are 23 Group of Six programs Alabama has played before but has never lost to. Nobody likes you when you are 23 anyway... Regardless, it probably does not serve Alabama to dial up any of these to get them on the schedule again. Alabama already has the upper hand. Plus, they will have to pay pretty much all of them to come into Bryant-Denny and take a beating for some cash.
Of course, not every game can be in league play or against a Power Four opponent in every season.
What teams could get their first win over Alabama in the coming years?
It would be absolutely mind-blowing, but this could unfortunately happen. The first team the Crimson Tide will face this season is none other than East Carolina. The Pirates are 0-1 against Alabama in their football history. The second-ever meeting will be at Bryant-Denny, making it very heavily in Alabama's favor. A loss to them would be unforgivable, but Kalen DeBoer has letdown games in him.
When looking at Alabama's future opponents, they will play Marshall for the first time in 2027. They also have Georgia State coming up in 2028. After that, the Crimson Tide have a home-and-home with Arizona in 2032 and 2033, whom they have never faced before. They also have a non-conference game with South Florida in 2032. Could Alabama lose to any of them? Probably not, but we shall see.
Removing the Group of Six from the equation, Alabama's next first loss to an opponent may come to a Power Four team in the College Football Playoff. It fell to Indiana in their first-ever meeting last year. Oregon is arguably the most likely team to check that box of next up among teams Alabama has never played before. As far as those it already has wins over, BYU and SMU feel like major stretches.
Records are meant to be broken, but it may be a minute before Alabama loses to a new team again.
