Alabama has the opportunity to troll Auburn with the same fear the thumb Slogan
If you are a long-time Alabama fan you are unfortunately all too familiar with the Fear the Thumb slogan made famous by then Auburn Coach Tommy Tubberville in 2005 after a fourth straight Iron Bowl win. As we all know Tubberville would extend that streak to six straight wins before the Crimson Tide regained control of this heated in-state rivalry.
Though the streak reached 6 straight in 2007 it was something about that fifth win that still doesn't sit right with me watching Tommy Tubberville running around Bryant Denny with five fingers in the air. Despite Nick Saban winning a majority of the Iron Bowls while the head coach in Tuscaloosa he never got five straight wins. In Coach Deboer's first-ever Iron Bowl, a win would give the Tide five in a row allowing Alabama fans to finally be able to return the Fear the Thumb trolling to the good people of Lee County.
From an Alabama perspective maybe this game seems to have lost a little juice after the loss last weekend in Norman which pretty much ended any chance of a national championship this year. As a long-term fan, I get that but this is the Iron Bowl, and if you don't feel like it means as much wait until you lose this game.
That being said I am excited for the fact to have the opportunity to hopefully be able to use the Fear the Thumb slogan and put it on a shirt for trash-talking purposes. I was a student at UA between 2002-2007 and for a while, I wasn't sure if we were ever going to beat Auburn again.
Despite Auburn coming into this game with a lot of confidence after a big win at home last week over Texas A&M I have a good feeling about Saturday afternoon. Being that the game is in Tuscaloosa is a big factor as we all know weird things happen in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
There has been a good amount of trash-talking from the Auburn side and I know Jalen Milroe and Ryan Williams would love for DeMarcus Riddick to have a little humble pie to close out his Thanksgiving weekend. That being said I am looking forward to finding a way to get an Alabama Fear the Thumb shirt and maybe with a little chaos, despite my thoughts on three-loss teams, will find a way back into the playoff field.
