Week 6SEC was a surprise week in SEC football. There were bad surprises in Tuscaloosa, but mostly they were the harm done to Alabama by officiating mistakes. The two teams battling to a close result was no surprise.
Elsewhere in the SEC surprise came close to being the Week 6 norm.
SEC Football Week 7 Power Rankings
- No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (6-0) - Last week, No. 1 - The Dawgs 20-17 escape in Tuscaloosa showed the Bulldogs have an edge over Alabama, but not by much.
- No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1) - Last week, No. 2 - A Crimson Tide vs. Georgia rematch is probable.
- No. 3 Texas Longhorns (4-1) - Last week, No. 3 - The Horns hold on to third despite being upset by Oklahoma.
- No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels (4-1) - Last week, No. 8. The Rebels' defense is lacking, but with Kewan Lacy almost back to form, the Ole Miss offense is outstanding.
- No. 5 Tennessee Vols (5-1) - The Vols are unsettled at quarterback, but they boast the SEC's second-best Scoring Defense.
- No. 6 LSU Bengal Tigers (4-2) - Last week, No. 5. After losing in overtime to Kentucky, some LSU fans are questioning LSU's big-dollar gamble with Lane Kiffin.
- No. 7 Missouri Tigers (5-1) - Last week, No. 7 - The Tigers' defense stifled Texas A&M in a 27-6 win, but that is no longer a resume-builder.
- No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners (3-2) - Last week, No. 10 - Knocking off Texas was huge for the Sooners. Oklahoma does not play LSU, but if they did in Week 7, at home, I'd pick the Sooners.
- No. 9 Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-1) - Last week, No. 9 - State had a bye week.
- No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats (5-1) - Last week, No. 13. Will Stein is proving he is the difference.
- No. 11 Florida Gators (4-2) - Last week, No. 6 - It is not just that Florida lost, but the Gators lost badly to South Carolina, 38-19.
- No. 12 Auburn Tigers (3-2) - Last week, No. 12 - The Aubies had a bye week.
- No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies (3-3) - Last week, No. 11 - No touchdowns for the Aggies in 27-6 loss to Missouri.
- No. 14 South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3) - Last week, No. 15 - Shane Beamer lives to fight another day.
- No. 15 Arkansas Razorbacks (2-4) - Last week, No. 16
- No. 16 Vanderbilt Commodores (3-3) - Last week, No. 15 - Clark Lea's defense was torched by Ole Miss' offense for 45 points. Four Vandy turnovers and 11 penalties also contributed in the 52-17 Ole Miss win.
