Alabama football fans had to wait a week, but the Crimson Tide is now rolling in the Transfer Portal. After successfully pulling TE Danny Lewis Jr. and CB Jaylen Mbakwe out of the portal, Alabama has now landed two commitments in the last two days.
First, Florida DL Kelby Collins committed to Alabama on Tuesday night. On Wednesday afternoon, Alabama landed Utah CB Cameron Calhoun.
Calhoun is a former 4-star recruit out of Cincinnati, Ohio in the 2023 class. He started his career at Michigan but transferred to Utah after redshirting with the Wolverines. Calhoun played a good bit for the Utes, totaling 21 tackles, 9 PDs, and 1 INT.
Calhoun had a previous relationship with Alabama GM Courtney Morgan, who was part of the recruiting efforts to get him to Michigan. He also went to the same high school as incoming Tide freshman Justin Hill.
Calhoun was ranked as the No. 4 CB in the Transfer Portal, per 247Sports. He was highly sought after once he entered the portal and Alabama sealed the deal with him on campus for a visit this week.
Calhoun figures to immediately come in and compete for playing time at corner. Starting nickel DeVonta Smith transferred to Notre Dame, and Alabama is still awaiting the NFL Draft decision from Domani Jackson. With Mbakwe potentially changing to WR next season, the Tide had a need at corner regardless of what Jackson decides.
Calhoun has the potential to develop into a star at corner, and in the very least adding a guy with the experience he got from playing with the Utes this season is a big depth addition for a young Alabama secondary.
