Alabama has effectively addressed its biggest need in the spring Transfer Portal window, landing a commitment from a tight end for the 2nd straight day.

On Wednesday, Alabama landed a commitment from West Virginia rising sophomore TE Jack Sammarco. On Thursday, the Crimson Tide landed Troy transfer Brody Dalton, who had recently been in Tuscaloosa on a visit and was expected to head to North Carolina next:

Dalton spent the last two years at Troy after starting his college career at UAB. He will have one year of eligibility left and figures to immediately push for playing time.

Dalton caught 15 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns this past season.

The two tight ends that Alabama added are more of in-line tight end options that should hopefully replace Robbie Ouzts, who was one of the unsung heroes of the team the last couple of seasons with his ability as a blocker.

Alabama desperately needed depth at TE and landed two quality additions

It hasn't been a sexy spring portal window for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama. But it should be viewed as a win considering the Crimson Tide suffered no losses from scholarship players, and has now effectively addressed its biggest need.

Alabama finished spring practice with only one healthy scholarship option at TE. Josh Cuevas, Danny Lewis. Jr, and Marshall Pritchett all suffered injuries and left Jay Lindsay as the last man standing. Cuevas and Lewis Jr. figure to be more of the receiving options for the Tide's offense next season, while Dalton and Sammarco were brought in to do the dirty work.

DeBoer and the staff have been comfortable with how the roster shaped up in the winter portal window and with what they brought in with the recruiting class. Alabama wasn't interested in getting into bidding wars for anyone this spring. Instead, they hoped to fill some gaps around the margins and increase depth at a couple of places.

Mission accomplished, at least at tight end. Alabama may not be finished, as they would certainly like to add a body or two on the offensive and defensive lines, but it won't be easy with limited playing time available to offer.
